Example Music videos  - representation  Cardi B - City Girls - Twerk video.  Who is being represented? Black minority of women, black african american women. Women with more shape and more curvy.   How? Sexualised manner, objectifies one specific type of body and bums. Homogenized beauty for the target audience. Suggests Target audience? (age, gender etc) Being explicit and sexual, the target audience would be older between 18-20yrs. Largest demographic on youtube are teenagers, particular teenage girls. The audience could be for both women and men, it is empowering for black african american women and well as attracting men.  Impact of this? This further objectifies and creates a set standard for women to try fit into. Who is Vance Joy - An australian male artist, signed to Atlantic records. His music can be catorgorised as fitting into indie folk-pop genre. Riptide was Vance Joy first single to be released in the USA, following his debut EP, 'God loves You're Dancing'. It became a platinum selling single. The video was directed by Dimitri Basil and Laura Gorun and has had nearly 300 million views on Youtube. Could be argued that the music video for riptide seems to defy or subvert music video conventions. Rejects the idea of narrative

In contrast to this, Adbusters runs parallel, and is only published six times a year by the Adbusters Media Foundation, 1989 to present with the price of £10.99, which is expensive and can be seen as contradictory since they agree on anti-consumerist/capitalist ideologies shown in the other sources of the media. How does Adbusters conform to and subvert stereotypical representations of gender?  The importance of what this model looks like or the gender of the model is not significant since things that are shown in the top image are really happening in the world and it is of a bigger significance.  Mocking magazines and the fashion industry, showing that magazines should show the true situations that people are facing rather than promoting fashion and consumerism.  Evidence of this is how the image is equally split up in half to  make one whole image. This reinforces that is a side-by-side comparison to emphasise binary oppositions like class, wealth. Therefore, this subverts against the stereotypical ideology of what the model actually might look like.  The gender in this is again very unclear since you can only imply that someone is sitting in a bath.
